KONTAN.CO.ID – HONG KONG. The Chinese dispute with the Five Eyes intelligence alliance has been increasingly heated following steps taken by Britain and Australia to potentially provide a sanctuary for Hong Kong residents who wish to leave the city.
Reporting from South China Morning Post, this happened because the new national security law took effect there after a year of anti-government protests.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry called on Britain and Australia to correct their mistakes following the announcement of potential aid for Hong Kong residents.
China also attacked the United States and New Zealand over the law and their comments about the security law adopted in Hong Kong on Tuesday.
“Compare Hong Kong’s security with our relations with other countries, at first glance it is clear which is more important,” ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said.
Zhao warned that China would take retaliatory action against Britain by accusing its government of violating the 1984 Sino-British Joint Declaration by offering citizens the right to stay and the road to citizenship for Hong Kong citizens.
