A cat has surprised many users on the web because of its size. At just nine months old, the feline from Phoenix, USA, is already the size of a child. The story was told by the British newspaper Daily Star.
The giant furball called Kusa can easily be mistaken for a domestic tiger. However, the Main Coon kitten is just a puppy that has grown a little larger than expected.
Tutor Chastity Hobbs shows on her Instagram profile the daily challenges of taking care of the cat, which weighs more than ten kilos and is one meter tall.
When adopted in July 2022, Kusa was slightly larger than a “normal” kitten, but that would quickly change.
Its size can be compared to that of a five-year-old child, and there is a possibility that it is the largest baby cat in the world.
“Anyone who sees Kusa thinks he was crossed with a lynx or something,” said the owner in an interview with the Daily Star.
Chastity says that despite its giant size, Kusa is anything but a wild predator.
“We have three other cats and Kusa is at the bottom of the cat pecking order – he’s very sweet. He likes attention and is a very cuddly cat,” he said.
But the gigantic fur ball also presents a number of challenges for its owner.
Chasity explains that taking care of Kusa requires double counting. “We need to scale up,” she commented.
Kusa needs a special litter box, and normal furniture for scratching is no longer enough due to its dimensions.
According to the tutor, she currently spends BRL 750 per week on feed for her four pets.
“Living with Kusa has been fantastic – it’s been wonderful to be with him.”
For Kusa’s current size, he may break the Maine Coon world size record.
The biggest cat in the world, also of the Main Coon breed, weighs 15 kilos and is almost 1.20 meters long.
Check out a video of Kusa’s growth over the last few months:
Usually, Main Coons, grow up to one meter in length. Males usually weigh five to nine kilograms, females are a little lighter. But Kusa is already much larger than an adult conspecific and is far from fully grown.
Despite its impressive size, according to Cobasi, the Maine Coon is known for being a docile, friendly and very playful animal. It is not by mere chance that this breed is known by the nickname of “gentle giant”.
The Maine Coon breed is known for having an extremely dense and smooth coat. On the body, the coat can vary between long on the belly and short on the back. In addition, it features a variation of colors, which makes the cat of this breed even more special.
Another curiosity is that cats of this breed are not as independent as most cats. The Maine Coon will love your company. Already with strangers, this breed prefers to stay more distant, not begging too much for their attention.
