Suara.com – A coronavirus patient in France suffered an erection for four hours. That’s because blood clots that might be triggered by the disease said doctors warned.
The 62-year-old suffered a painful condition known as priapism while in an intensive care unit at Le Chesnay hospital, according to a case report in The American Journal of Emergency Medicine.
Reporting from the New York Post, the doctors initially applied an ice pack to the area, but after four hours the erection still hadn’t disappeared.
Using needles, they instead decided to drain blood from his penis and found that it was filled with blood clots, the report said.
Doctors say blood clots are common among coronavirus patients. But this is the first case, where blood is clotted and trapped in the penis.

“Clinical and laboratory presentations in our patients strongly suggest priapism associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection,” the doctors wrote.
But more research is needed in the link between strange cases of blood clots and viruses, they said.
“Although the arguments in favor of the causal relationship between COVID-19 and priapism are very strong in our case, subsequent case reports will strengthen the evidence,” the report said.
