LONDON (AP) – The Beatles' psychedelic masterpiece "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" has been voted the most popular British album in history.
The Official Charts Company said on Saturday that the band's classic in 1967 was Britain's favorite album, based on physical sales, downloads and streams in the UK.
The album found Liverpool's four most experimental and inventive pals to include favorites such as "With a Little Help from My Friends" and "A Day in the Life".
The band had meanwhile stopped touring and concentrated on studio work under the direction of producer George Martin.
The album came before Adele's "21", which finished second, and the 1995 Oasis album "What's the Story Morning Glory".
