A Mirage 2000 from the Nancy-Ochey air base (Meurthe-et-Moselle) lost a somewhat embarrassing load on Thursday as it flew over the Landes and the Gironde during an aerial firing exercise from the air base de Cazaux (Gironde), report our colleagues from L’Est Républicain.
A 40 kg inert bomb fell from the plane. The blue cylinder is 1.90 meters long and 10 centimeters in diameter. There is no risk of it exploding, but anyone who finds it is asked not to touch it, for the purposes of the investigation, and to warn the gendarmerie.
Since then, the gendarmes comb the area where the bomb is likely to have fallen, which extends over eight municipalities of Landes and Gironde.
According to the gendarmerie, this type of accident is rare: a precedent had taken place, already with a plane from the Nancy-Ochey base in 2018. The bomb fell on a factory in Loiret. Two employees were injured.
