From Doctor Strange 2 director Sam Raimi, the suspense-packed thriller revolves around the psychic Annie (Cate Blanchett). The mother of two children uses her supernatural gift to earn a living and to help her fellow human beings. When she foresees a murder she finds herself in the spotlight of a stirring investigation. Their footsteps soon lead to the brutal Donnie Barksdale (Keanu Reeves).

Reeves plays his role as an abusive husband and hillbilly with absolute conviction. Even his serial killer in The Watcher doesn’t mind. When Barksdale’s wife Valerie (Hilary Swank) brutally dragging around, its uncontrolled menace is physically palpable.
The unusual cast of Reeves is just one of the reasons why thriller fans should definitely check out The Gift. Raimi has created a suspense masterpiece with a star cast, which also includes Katie Holmes and Giovanni Ribisi.
Apparently he liked JK Simmons and Rosemary Harris so much that he cast them in Spider-Man shortly thereafter. In this respect, The Gift is also a contemporary document. It Raimi’s last film, before his career exploded with Marvel pioneering. It is all the more worthwhile to take a closer look at the forgotten fantasy highlight.
