According to the police, the fire broke out on a loading ramp on Sunday evening – and spread quickly. There were explosions and several parts of the building collapsed – no one was injured. The emergency services were able to prevent the flames from spreading to another hall. At times the flames struck up to 50 meters in height with heavy smoke development. The deletion work is expected to continue until Monday morning.
A total of more than 300 firefighters were on duty. According to initial estimates, a total loss of several million euros had arisen, it said. The cause of the fire was initially unknown. The railway line between Heidelberg and Karlsruhe was temporarily closed, but released again early Monday morning.
A police helicopter was also used to observe the fire. In addition, as a precaution, emergency services with around 30 staff were present. The Lord Mayor of Bruchsal, Cornelia Petzold-Schick, got an idea of what was happening on site.
