Guillaume Le Pape, the assistant coach of C’Chartres BM with the U16s of the France team

While waiting, or not, for his renewal within the C’Chartres Basket Masculin, Guillaume Le Pape, the assistant coach of the National 1 team, will offer himself a small national parenthesis. From June, the Lucéen will supervise the French U16 boys team which is preparing for the Euro in Macedonia (from August 12 to 20).

He will not be the only Eurélien in the selection since the main coach will be Nicolas Absalon, a former player for the Dreux Alliance and who has worked for the Federation for several years. Absalon was notably a video analyst for the France A team and assistant coach of the Federal Center in N1.

“Nicolas called me in January for this mission with the U16s,” confides Guillaume Le Pape, who has just celebrated his 45th birthday. “We are four assistant coaches*. The preparation begins with a tournament in Germany from June 18 to 25, followed by two internships at Insep in July and August before joining Macedonia**. »

Most of the players who make up the France U16 team (born in 2005) play at Insep, including Noah Penda (10.9 pts at 15 for 29 minutes in 28 matches), one of the Pole’s spearheads France this season in N1 (11 wins) and who should be one of the leaders of the U16s at the Euro.

In Skopje, the Macedonian capital which will host the continental event, the Blues will be among the favorites for the title. Second strongest nation behind Spain since 2004, France has three successes in this competition (2004, 2014 and 2017). During the last Euro, in Udine (Italy), in 2019, the Bleuets were beaten in the final by… the Spaniards.

Even if Guillaume Le Pape admits half-wordly that the recent obtaining of the diploma of professional trainer may have helped him to integrate the national coaching, “thanks to this diploma, our skills are recognized”, he admits bluntly that this first international experience will be “rewarding in more ways than one”. “It’s different than coaching seasoned players from the N1, here we are on young people aged 15-16”, confides the one who, before arriving at the CCBM in 2014, was a trainer for ten years at the Amicale de Lucé.

*At the Euro, France will be in a group with Israel, Lithuania and the Netherlands.

Moatassim Rhennam, new coach of C’Chartes BM

N1M: coach-adjoint of Moatassim Rhenna
Arrived at the CCBM in 2014 as assistant to coach Philippe Namyst, Guillaume Le Pape became full-time assistant coach in 2016, when Sébastien Lambert landed. If he does not yet know his future, the Lucéen met, last week, Moatassim Rhennam, who will lead the N1M team next season. “He wants to work with me but my renewal depends on the leaders. “The future of Guillaume Le Pape as well as that of the players should be revealed in the coming weeks, by the end of the N1 play-offs (June 12).
