SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) – Bills have been provided at a 30-day legislative session in New Mexico that strengthens restrictions on firearms, which underwritten college instruction, which fosters a pension fund for government workers and develops state oversight of steam sales and cigarettes. But a bid fell to make marijuana recreational sales lawful.
Final decisions on the proposals and an annual budget are $ 7.6 billion including an increase of almost 8 per cent in state spending now held by Democratic Gov Michelle Lujan Grisham.

Under a red flag gun bill, the district courts will give the power to order the surrender of a firearm from persons deemed to be a danger to themselves or others. Relatives, employers and school administrators can alert the authorities when they suspect gun owners are in crisis.
In preparation for the signing of the bill, Lujan Grisham reminded the law enforcement of their new obligation to use firearm protection orders which are of high risk. Many of the county’s sheriff opposed the bill on constitutional grounds, and supporters said new instruments were needed to prevent gun violence following a major new round of shot, including the seafarers in August 2019 in Walmart’s shop. El Paso, Texas, is bordering New Mexico.
