The Trading Card Game Gwent: The Witcher Card Game from the house of the Witcher-makers CD project RED is to be fundamentally revised. This has officially announced the studio in person of co-founder Marcin Iwinski. The action will take up to six months and will be conducted under the heading “Homecoming”.
The expected changes should sometimes be very significant and will also modify the basic structure of the game, including the playing field or order of moves.
“We have never accepted ‘good enough’ in our company,” says Iwinski. “We’ve always taken risks and made tough decisions when we thought they would lead to a better game and you guessed right: we’ve done that again right now.”
Gwent is played in several rows of cards and playing cards in certain rows is an integral part of the game. This game mechanics should now be further developed. Cards should also be redesigned as part of “Homecoming”, so that they fit better to certain series and then play off additional strengths. There is also the possibility that individual rows from the game are completely deleted.
“The redesign will not leave any stone on the other,” says CD Projekt RED. “It’s still something that really needs extensive testing, but we’re serious about putting it into practice.”
