Gymnast Simone Biles has her ticket to Tokyo | Olympic Games

Biles never really doubted, and her score of 118.098 earned her one of two automatic qualifiers for Tokyo, where she will be one of the headliners in American sport.

She won four gold medals and one bronze at the 2016 Games in Rio.

She edged Suni Lee in the final standings by 2.66 points, who finished with 115.832 points and will make her Olympic debut at 18.

Even if her overall performance was below her usual standards, the spectators stood up to greet the small champion of 1.42 m at the end of the floor test.

Getting a standing ovation was so nice, recognized the athlete from Columbus, Ohio.

Other qualifiers in the team event are Jordan Chiles and Grace McCallum, as well as Jade Carey and MyKayla Skinner in the individual events, all of whom are competing in their first Games.

Love after scandal

Simone Biles is one of many gymnasts sexually abused by former Olympic team doctor Larry Nassar in a scandal that rocked American gymnastics.

She said it took a while for her to get back into a good state of mind.

Everything I’ve been through with the federation, rediscovering the love of sport, just being Simone, it’s been a long road. Five years later and we go back to the Games, she explained to American television.

The path has been surreal.

A quote from:Simone Biles, American gymnast

I’m old, I feel like I have a lot of wisdom […], so I just want everyone to be calm and collected.

At 24, Simone Biles will be the oldest American gymnast to take part in the Games since Annia Hatch, 26, and Mohini Bhardwaj, 25, at the 2004 Olympics.
