After his flat tire last race, Lewis Hamilton is not worried about the rubber during the anniversary race next Sunday. According to the Briton, his team Mercedes simply expected last week that the hard tire would last longer. “We will continue to learn about these tires.”
Both Lewis Hamilton and teammate Valtteri Bottas punctured in the final stages of the British GP. After Pirelli’s investigation it came to light that the long stints and the extreme pressure on the left front tire were the cause. For the second race at Silverstone, the Italian tire factory chose a compound softer tires.

“The softer tires will be a challenge,” said Lewis Hamilton during the press moment on Thursday. “It will be interesting to see if that will lead to more pit stops, because one-stopper is boring,” said the clear opinion of the world champion. Still, Hamilton has faith in the soft rubber. “I’m not worried about the tires this weekend. We will continue to learn about this rubber, last weekend we just thought that the tires would last longer. ”
Pirelli tested an alternative construction for the 2020 tire in 2019. After criticism from the drivers, it was decided to stick to last year’s rubber. Had Pirelli’s original 2020 tire been a solution to last weekend’s problems? “I don’t know, I’m not even sure what the difference was. But those tires were slower, which is why we didn’t choose them at the time, ”said Hamilton.
