Harry remembers his mother on his 59th birthday with a speech where he winked at Black Lives Matter | TV and Show

This Wednesday, the annual Diana Awards ceremony, an award given in memory of the late Princess of Wales who would have just turned 59 on this day.

In the transmission, which lasted 67 minutes, the prince harry to deliver a message in his capacity as the youngest son of the former activist, who died in a traffic accident in Paris in 1997.

“I am very proud to be part of these awards that honor my mother’s legacy and they bring out the best in people like you, ”said the once military man, today retired from real work and living with his wife Meghan and son Archie in Los Angeles, California.

“You are all doing amazing work and, in a moment of great uncertainty, have found the power and inspiration within you to leave a positive mark on the world, and I love that the Diana Awards can help them do it, ”said Harry.

After that, the rest of her speech was used to greet the award winners, highlight what her mother’s figure meant, her legacy, highlight her rebellion – which on more than one occasion put her in trouble – and discuss racism, in a clear nod to the Black Lives Matter movement.

“I know that my mother has been an inspiration for many of you and I can assure you that I would have been defending your interests. Like many of you, she never took the easy way, the popular or the comfortable. But she defended something. And he defended people in need, ”added the Duke of Sussex.

“Right now, we are seeing situations around the world where division, isolation, and anger are dominating as pain and trauma surface. But I see the greatest hope in people like you and I am sure of the future of the world and its ability to heal because it is in your hands, “he said.

“My wife (Meghan) said a while ago that our generation and the older ones have not done enough to make up for past mistakes. I’m sorry too, I’m sorry that we haven’t brought the world to a place where you deserve to be. He institutional racism has no place in our societies, but it is still endemic. Unconscious bias must be recognized without fault to create a better world for all of you, “he added.

In order to end his speech, Harry said he wanted them to know that are “committed to being part of the solution and be part of the change they are leading. Now is the time and we know they can do it ”, she closed.

The Diana Awards were established in 1999 by Tony Blair’s Labor government and in 2006 they became an independent charity that seeks to celebrate and continue Diana’s legacy, in addition to publicly recognizing young people who “help their communities in extraordinary ways”.
