Eden Hazard was once among the biggest stars in the world of football. Currently, however, he is no more than a supplementary player. Still, the Belgian will stay at Real Madrid.
When Hazard moved from Chelsea to Madrid in 2019 for a record €115m, he was seen as the successor to Cristiano Ronaldo who had left the club. But the left winger was never able to build on his form and his performances from London times.
On the one hand, it seems as if the pressure of the high fee weighs on his shoulders, on the other hand, injuries kept throwing him back. Since joining Real, Hazard has been absent more often due to illness or injury (69) than he has been on the field (65). The striker has only managed six goals and ten assists in his three years with the Royals.
Ancelotti: “He’s staying to show his quality next season.”
However, there seems to be no doubt about Hazard’s future in Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti commented on the 31-year-old at the press conference before the away game in Cadiz: “His plan is pretty clear: He’s staying – and with a lot of motivation, because the last few years haven’t gone well for him. He has Wanting to show all his quality, which he hasn’t been able to do so far. He’s staying to show his quality next season,” said the head coach.
Hazard is under contract at Real Madrid until June 2024. Recently there have been rumors about a transfer of the Belgian national player. Both Borussia Dortmund and FC Arsenal are said to have expressed their interest.
