The prefectural decrees will take effect Monday morning and wearing a mask will now be compulsory in certain outdoor public spaces with high traffic. The measure was expected in Paris, it will also be extended to the departments of the inner suburbs and Val-d’Oise. In the capital, more than a hundred arteries, squares, markets or gardens are concerned. On Wednesday evening, a meeting was held at the Prefecture of Police, in the presence of the Prefect Didier Lallement and the prefects of Ile-de-France. It was decided to initiate a phase of consultation with the district town halls in Paris and with local elected officials in the Ile-de-France departments. Objective: to establish “a reasoned cartography”.

In the capital, almost all the districts are concerned. From east to west, all the quays of the Seine are targeted by the measure, as are the Canal Saint-Martin, the Bassin de la Villette, major popular axes mainly in the north (avenue de Saint-Ouen, boulevards de Clichy, Rochechouart, de la Chapelle), and the east of the capital (Belleville, Ménilmontant), tourist places like the Butte-Montmartre or traders like Bercy Village.

Most of the Parisian markets will not escape the new rule, as will the very shopping streets such as Montorgueil, Passy, Lévis and Poncelet, Faubourg Saint-Denis, Mouffetard, Daguerre, la Roquette, Goutte d’Or, Secrétan …
