Housing Action Day 2021: Demonstration against high rents announced in Berlin

On Saturday, people want to advocate changes in housing policy at a demonstration on Berlin’s Alexanderplatz.

Berlin – During a demonstration on the Berliner Alexanderplatz want people to stand up for changes in housing policy on Saturday.

The event is part of the Europe-wide “Housing Action Day 2021”.

According to the police, 1,500 participants were registered. From Alexanderplatz it should go from 12 noon via Moritzplatz to Mariannenplatz.

Actions have also been announced in Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt am Main, Leipzig and Potsdam.

The alliance against displacement and rent madness demands, among other things, the stop of the conversion of rented apartments into condominiums, the lowering of rents and the socialization of housing groups.

In a call by the Berlin tenants’ association it was said: “We need socially and ecologically vibrant cities – without poverty, homelessness and discrimination – with apartments at affordable rents for everyone.”
