One million electric and hybrid cars that can be refueled on French roads at the end of the five-year period, is Emmanuel Macron's objective. Relying on a report on the automobile of the future, the President of the Republic unveiled on Wednesday three flagship measures to encourage the French to buy electrified cars, as part of a large dinner with automotive professionals .
A clearly defined bonus until 2022
The amount of the bonus for a zero emission car will be fixed until 2022, for each year, and no longer reviewed annually. "The current amount, 6000 euros, is interesting to take off the market, explains Xavier Mosquet, senior partner BCG cabinet and author of the report with Patrick Pélata, president of the firm Meta Consulting LLC and former managing director of Renault. idea is to establish a calendar that gives visibility of the evolution of the bonus, as in China or California, for individuals as for professionals ".
The evolution of the bonus amount will take into account the lower cost of buying electric cars in the coming years, with the expected increase in sales volumes. The goal is to support the market without weakening public finances. The bonus should be lower in 2022 than this year or next year. The executive should, however, wait for the conclusions of the big debate before working on future bonus amounts.
Have 100,000 charging points in 2022
Reassure on prices, but also on the recharge. The executive wants to increase from 25,000 to 100,000 the number of public charging points in France by 2022. But as 90% of home owners recharge at home or at work, the government also wants to promote the installation of terminals at home. The installation time of a co-ownership will be divided by two, from 6 to 3 months. The modalities will also be relaxed so that companies can offer free charging to their employees or make more attractive the electric car as a company car.
Benefits for electric car drivers
Last but not least, drivers of electric cars will be ahead of those who run on diesel or gasoline, as in Norway or China. Parking spaces reserved or free, or reserved lanes these benefits will be determined by local authorities. For example, the authors of the report met with representatives of the Paris City Hall. It is the future law on mobility that will define the possible actions for cities and agglomerations.
39,000 electric cars were sold in France last year, as well as 14,500 plug-in hybrids. With these measures, the executive aims to sell 165,000 electric in 2022, and 145,000 plug-in hybrids.
