TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Huawei released a new foldable product, Mate X3, on March 23, 2023. The company boasts that the Mate X3 is lighter than its competitors. At 239 grams, this device is 24 grams lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold4.
Huawei manages light weight without meaningful compromises in other areas. This device has a larger display, a larger battery, and a periscope zoom camera. When unfolded, the Mate X3 is 5.3mm thick.
Both screens are capable of 120 Hz. The cover screen measures 6.4 inches with a resolution of 2504×1080 px and an aspect of 20.9:9. Meanwhile, on the inside, there is a 7.85-inch panel with a resolution of 2496×2224 px and an almost square 8:7.1 aspect.
The Huawei Mate X3 is water resistant to the same IPX8 standard as the Galaxy Z Fold4. This is the first non-Samsung foldable phone to achieve water resistance. Huawei also offers two-way satellite communication on the Mate X3.
The new hinge design folds the screen flat when closed. Noticing a very slim waistline, the hinge supports the phone in multiple angles for selfies without a tripod. There’s also a split-screen mode for video calling and watching videos, and a night mode that shows weather and time data.
The Huawei Mate X3 has three cameras on the back, 50 MP f/1.8 wide joined by 13 MP f/2.2 ultra wide and 12 MP f/3.4 5x telephoto. The video capabilities are [email protected]/60fps, [email protected]/60fps, gyro-EIS. Meanwhile, for 8 MP selfies, there is one on each screen. The Mate X3 runs the Harmony OS 3.1 operating system. The chip of choice is the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and is packed with 12GB of RAM. The Mate X3 excels in 4G connectivity, as the company is prohibited from buying 5G modems. Inside is a 4,800mAh battery with support for 66W wired and 50W wireless charging.
So far, the Huawei Mate X3 will only be available in China with no word on global availability. The devices start at CNY 12,999 /$1,999 for the 256 GB model, while the top 1 TB variant is CNY 15,999 /$2,340. If calculated in rupiah, it ranges from Rp. 31.6 million to Rp. 37 million.
