Apocalypse doesn’t have to be miserable when you’ve got a gorgeous rooftop garden, your personal fishing hole, and a bevy of robot buddies. Join developer Mandragora and publisher tinyBuild for a first taste of life at the end of the world in the I Am Future demo, available now on Steam, ahead of the start of Early Access on May 18th!
But before you jump in and start playing, take a look at what the life of a creative engineer left to fend for himself after the collapse of civilization is like. Aside from the occasional wave of mutated bugs, it’s beautiful enough to sing about. Warm up your whistles and sing along karaoke style with the trailer below.
In I Am Future, you wake up from hibernation on an overgrown rooftop surrounded by the sea. Earth has been evacuated and you have been left with nothing but a bionic arm and some robots to repair. The good thing is that the view is amazing and there is fresh fruit and veg growing nearby. With a bit of diligence (and some WD-40 for your robotic arm) this could be a nice place to live.
Upgrade your arm, loot resources, pick plants, build workbenches, and create gardens. There’s a lot to do, but once you’ve got everything set up you can sit back, relax, go fishing and cook a fresh meal every day. Also, a smart engineer knows how to delegate. If you get a few fellow robots to share the burden with you, the apocalypse can get downright cozy.
In I Am Future you don’t fight for your life, but you have to take care of your territory. The end of the old world brings with it new threats: mutated bugs appear at night, nibbling on your plants and sucking your electronics dry. Nothing a can of insecticide can’t fix, but not every night can be relaxing. What happened here and why can’t you remember anything? This is a riddle that you have to solve piece by piece. Fix the robots, start asking questions and maybe send out some drones to scout the surrounding town for clues. I’m sure it will make sense at some point. There’s no need to rush.
The full version of I Am Future will feature an extensive story campaign and a customizable sandbox mode where you can enjoy this blue and green paradise as you please. Dive into the demo now on Steam and pre-order the game now. I Am Future enters Early Access on May 18th.
