Iga Swiatek is WTA Player of the Year for the first time

Iga Swiatek has been named WTA Player of the Year for the first time.

The Pole not only ended the year as the first in the tennis world rankings, but also had a series of 37 victories en suite. She won the French and US Opens as well as the events in Doha, Indian Wells, Miami, Stuttgart, Rome and San Diego.

Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur received the Sportsmanship and Fair Play award, while China’s Zheng Qinwen was named Newcomer of the Year. Zheng climbed over 100 positions to rank 25th.

Beatriz Haddad Maia (BRA) was voted the most improved player in the ranking after her advance into the top 20, comeback player 2022 is the German Tatjana Maria. The latter had become the mother of a daughter for the second time last year and reached the Wimbledon semi-finals this year.
