Improve virus detection in blood samples

The Institute for Integrative Systems Biology (I2SysBio), a joint center of the UV and the CSIC, has developed a procedure that increases the sensitivity to detect viruses in blood samples, in addition to reducing the effect of contamination. This research, published in ‘Scientific Reports’, allows the detection of viruses in blood samples, facilitated by the new techniques of metagenomic analysis, but there are still barriers to overcome before being able to establish routine surveillance mechanisms. For this, the I2SysBio has designed a protocol aimed at increasing the probability of detecting new viruses in healthy people.
