According to dpa information, the Humboldt Forum in the new Berlin Palace will not open as planned this year. There are still important technical issues in the rebuilt Hohenzollern Castle unresolved. At 1 pm, the responsible persons wanted to inform the press about the status of the work on the construction site.
Last week, the Humboldt Forum referred to a meeting of the Board of Trustees on June 26 to discuss the opening date. In conversation there was an opening of the empty house.
The planned ivory exhibition was to be postponed and not realized until spring 2020. Many international museums are not prepared to hand over the 150 loans requested by the Humboldt Forum to a house that is still under construction.
In January, the leading Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation declared that the Humboldt Forum should be opened in November. The namesake and researcher Alexander von Humboldt was born on September 14, 250 years ago in Berlin. For this appointment, a ceremony was planned in the castle.
The general manager of the Humboldt Forum, Hartmut Dorgerloh, had previously stated that the building with 40,000 square meters of usable space was to be technically commissioned by autumn. "In the autumn of 2019, we expect a green light from the construction supervision," he told me in an interview with the "Berliner Morgenpost".
At the beginning of December, the head of construction responsible, Hans-Dieter Hegener, confirmed that the date buffers for the project had been used up. But it is still possible to open the Humboldt Forum in November or December 2019.
The Humboldt Forum, planned for 600 million euros in the largely reconstructed castle, is to be gradually opened from the end of 2019 as a museum and cultural center. Main users will get the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz with its museums, also the state of Berlin and the Humboldt-Universität.
