Neil Young planned his wedding with Daryl Hannah so that they would have an almost full moon when he serenaded her with "Harvest Moon".
The ceremony on Friday was kept top secret and held near San Luis Obispo, California – a three- to-four trip from Los Angeles – to keep paparazzi out.
Joni Mitchell and Stephen Stills were among the only celebrities. The 100 invited guests each received a heart-shaped medallion with photos in the smiling faces of the bride and groom.
Guests were also given a list of nearby hotels, but were told, "Please note that the hotels have no information about the event, so please only contact them to book a room (and mention nothing about this event). "
A wedding planner also advised the guests: "Everyone is asked to leave their phones and cameras in the hotel."
Hannah, 57, whose past loves John F. Kennedy Jr. and Jackson Browne, has seen Young, 72, since 2014.
Hannah and Young led a Keystone XL pipeline protest in Washington, DC in April of the same year, and in July, Young filed for divorce from Pegi, his 36-year-old wife.
When his and Hannah's romance was discovered, Young publicly said they did not care what people thought about it. "We did not pay attention, it does not matter, we do not give s – – t … what matters is us, not the press."
Hannah posted a photo of an owl on Instagram on Saturday with the headline, "Someone watches over us … love and only love."
