Inflation in September jumped to 2.6%, top since 2012 – Economy

In September 2021, the national consumer price index for the entire community (NIC), gross of tobaccos, recorded a decrease of 0.1% on a monthly basis and an increase of 2.6% year on year (from 2.0% in the previous month). Istat notes this on the basis of preliminary estimates on inflation.

Inflation continues to accelerate and thus leads to a level that has not been recorded since October 2012. In addition to the very large increase in the prices of energy goods (both for the regulated component and for the unregulated component), there are also accelerations in the growth of prices in other commodity sectors, which push the underlying inflation above the percentage point.
