Intensive care physician: “The second wave will be bigger than the first”

WORLD: In the past few weeks, younger people in particular have been infected with the virus – has the average age of Covid 19 patients on the ward decreased as a result?

Kluge: No, not really. We have a 50-year-old who is currently ventilated; he was actually very fit but has a heart disease. A colleague just reported on a 49-year-old patient on ventilation in another university clinic, also no previous illness except overweight. But these are more of an exception. On average, seriously ill Covid 19 patients are older.

WORLD: Does a patient have a better chance of survival today than in March?
