Internal problem: That’s why ARD is not showing any DFB games for the time being – FOOTBALL

When the German national soccer team plays Peru (8:45 p.m. / ZDF) on Saturday and Belgium (8:45 p.m. / RTL) on Tuesday, ARD will once again get nothing. Instead, “Do you understand fun?” and the serial drama “Days that didn’t exist” are running in the first.

Curious: Away from the World Cup, ARD last broadcast a game by Hansi Flick’s team on March 29, 2022 – at that time it was 1-1 in Holland. Since then, RTL has had five transmissions and ZDF four.

How did this long ARD break come about? The games are part of the new contract for the rights period from 2022 to 2028. The 60 games are divided up as follows: 30 shows RTL, the other 30 actually ARD and ZDF. But there is an internal problem at ARD. There, the rights deals have to be approved by the committees in the nine state broadcasters such as NDR, WDR and Co. Here, some crossed.

Reason: According to SPORT BILD information, the Nations League is viewed critically and is not classified as a full, established competition that you want to spend money on. The broadcaster should rather focus on big tournaments. Therefore, the Nations League games were broadcast by RTL and ZDF.

In the three planned international matches in June (opponents have not yet been determined), the first will probably play a role, and also in the autumn of this year. The ARD did not want to comment on the situation on request.
