Inturbo Low Express: Hochul Expands Transit Services in Brooklyn, Queens

New York (WABC)-Governor Kathy Hochul has announced plans to promote the Interborough Express as part of the 2022 state.

The Inturbo Low Express is a 14-mile existing freight carrier that stretches from Bay Ridge in Brooklyn to Jackson Heights in Queens. Travel time from one end to the other is expected to be less than 40 minutes.

Hochul has instructed the MTA to start the project’s environmental review process immediately. This is the first step in building a major infrastructure investment that connects the Brooklyn and Queens communities to up to 17 subway lines and the Long Island Rail Road.

“It’s time to invest in bold, cutting-edge infrastructure projects that make a real difference in everyday New Yorker life,” Hochul said. “The New Yorker deserves reliable public transport from work to home and everywhere in between. The Interborough Express is a revolutionary addition to Brooklyn and Queens, reducing travel times and neighborhoods. And help the community to be cleaner, more environmentally friendly and more equitable.

This project will use the existing rights of the Bayridge branch. Bay Ridge Branch passes through Brooklyn and Queens, Sunset Park, Rose Park, Kensington, Midwood, Flatbush, Flatland, New Lots, Brownsville, East New York, Bushwick, Ridgewood, Middle Village, Maspeth, Elmhurst. , Jackson Heights. There are several new stations in the community that are not currently being transported by rail.

If this new service is adopted, it currently has about 900,000 residents and 260,000 jobs, and is expected to employ at least 41,000 and 15,000 over the next 25 years, with poor service along the corridors. Improves transportation to the community and access to work.

For many residents along the corridor, the existing subway line is directed to Manhattan, so crossing from neighborhood to neighborhood is slow and tedious.

This project will provide significant mobility, create better links for round-trip trips to Manhattan, and major connections between districts, opening up new opportunities for reverse commute to Nassau and Suffolk counties.
