Last night Apple released iOS 16 Beta 2 for developers and in this article we are going to summarize all the major new features for the iPhone.
We remind you that iOS 16 beta 2 is currently only available for developers. Therefore, it is not recommended to install iOS 16 beta on major devices without knowing that it is a non-definitive software release.
Here’s everything new in iOS 16 beta 2:
It is now possible to remove custom lock screens simply by swiping them up and tapping “Remove”.
- The French translation has been greatly improved.
- Improved overall stability and performance.
- The Accessibility feature that allows you to mirror Apple Watch screen to iPhone now works properly.
- Introduces the ability to back up to iCloud also over a data connection (not just over WiFi).
- There are now two new “filters” for photos on the lock screen: in addition to “natural” and “black and white”, there are “duotone” and “colorful watercolor”.
- When customizing the lock screen, Apple will point out that you can pinch the screen to crop the photo set as wallpaper.
- Modification of the wallpaper selection screen which now allows you to better understand if you are going to modify an already defined background or if another one is selected.
- Live Earth wallpaper is now also available on older devices including iPhone XS and iPhone XR.
- The video player lets you move slowly through playback with a long press.
- The Astronomy wallpaper has been updated to show a green dot on the map showing your location.
- Improvements to SMS filtering in Messages.
- Apple is expanding the built-in “Report Spam” feature in the Messages app to cover SMS/MMS messages, allowing you to report spam messages to certain carriers (US only).
- The built-in video player now allows you to long press to scroll through a video.
- A “Save to Quick Note” option is now available when saving a screenshot.
- On iPadOS 16 beta 2, there is a new Stage Manager setting in the Settings app that shows options to hide recent apps and hide the dock when using Stage Manager.
- Now, when a user edits a message sent via iMessage on an iPhone or iPad with iOS 16, users with iOS 15 or earlier will receive a new version of that message labeled “Edited”.
- Added a new menu to manage HomePod beta software in the Home app.
