Apple will remove the notch from the iPhone! According to the latest rumors, this change would arrive this year. But it wasn’t until 2023, with the iPhone 15, that the sensors for Face ID would be hidden under the screen.
- iPhone 14 rumored to have no notch
- Face ID would pass under the screen thanks to Samsung technology from the iPhone 15
- Samsung’s new UPC tech is set to debut on the Galaxy Z Fold 5
Many leaks have already announced that Apple will remove the notch from the iPhone. New rumors come from Korea, where The Elec reported that it is precisely Samsung that will play an important role in this change.
The iPhone 14 Pro would have a punched screen
If the rumors turn out to be true, Apple’s iPhone 14 will be equipped next September with a somewhat special punch on its screen, housing the selfie camera and sensors for Face-ID. According to these sources, however, this design change would be reserved for the Pro range, which would mean that the other iPhones of 2022 would still have the notch.
It is also said that this double punch will give way to a single hole in 2023 for the iPhone 15. Samsung’s new UPC (Under-Panel-Cam) technology will then be available. This would ensure that the selfie camera remains visible, but also that the sensors for Face ID pass under the screen.

Samsung already took a step forward last year, completely hiding the front camera of the Galaxy Z Fold 3. But the success of this camera is rather limited. If the two competitors roughly maintain their release cycles, we’ll see in about a year and a half, two smartphones equipped with the new UPC technology: first the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 at the end of the summer and few time later, Apple’s iPhone 15.
Overall, the new information from analysts essentially confirms the rumors that have already made the rounds anyway. But each new source and each additional information reinforces them.
