Tehran, Iran – Thousands of Iranians held a rally in Tehran on the anniversary of the US embassy's takeover in 1979, when Washington restored all its sanctions under the nuclear deal.
The crowd shouted "Down with USA" and "Death to Israel" during Sunday's rally in the capital, and state television says similar demonstrations took place in other cities and towns.
On Friday, the Trump government announced the restoration of sanctions for the Iranian shipping, finance and energy sectors. The second punishment to resume after the resignation of US President Donald Trump in May from the 2015 nuclear deal.
Shortly after the Islamic Revolution of 1979, Iranian students stormed the embassy. 52 Americans were taken as hostages for 444 days.
