Ireland warns UK against unilateral action on Northern Ireland protocol

BELFAST – The European Union would take legal action and possibly impose countermeasures on the UK if London takes unilateral action that undermines the Northern Ireland protocol, Ireland’s foreign minister warned on Wednesday.

“Unilateral action will make all of this worse. (…) It will lead to legal action. It will lead to possible countermeasures” by the EU, Simon Coveney told reporters in Belfast when asked about British threats to make unilateral changes to the protocol, which is part of Britain’s withdrawal agreement from the EU.
