Italian Researchers: A Number of Covid-19 Patients Who Have Healed with Psychiatric Disorders

SERAMBINEWS.COM – Covid-19 survivors experience higher rates of psychiatric disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, insomnia and depression.

This was revealed in a research report conducted by the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, Italy on Monday (3/8/2020).

Based on a survey conducted by the hospital of 402 patients, it shows that more than half have psychiatric disorders.

They, 402 people, were Covid-19 patients who were monitored after receiving treatment from the hospital.

Professor Francesco Benedetti, chairman of the study, said they had at least one of these disorders, proportional to the severity of inflammation during the infection.

The patients, consisting of 265 men and 137 women, were examined and monitored for one month after receiving hospital admission.

The report was published Monday, August 3, 2020, in the scientific journal Brain, Behavior and Immunity.

Based on clinical interviews and questionnaires, doctors found post-traumatic stress disorder in 28 percent, depression in 31 percent, anxiety in 42 percent of patients and insomnia in 40 percent, and finally obsessive-compulsive symptoms in 20 percent.

The study shows that women suffer the most from anxiety and depression, even though the severity of the infection is lower, the report wrote.
