Jacob Gunter is Senior Analyst Economy at MERICS. He studied and worked in China for ten years. Before joining MERICS, he worked for the EU Chamber of Commerce in China as a senior expert and communications manager. His research interests include China’s economic strategies and relationships, industrial and innovation policy. Among other things, he examines how the EU should position itself in competition with China in third markets.
Gunter holds a dual Masters degree in Sinology and International Studies from Johns Hopkins SAIS and Nanjing University (Hopkins-Nanjing Center) and a BSBA in International Business from Daniel’s College of Business, Denver University. He studied and worked in Beijing, Nanjing, Shanghai and Yuyao, Zhejiang.
