The president of the Provincial Council of Palencia, Ángeles Armisén, yesterday welcomed the foreign delegation that represents the seventeen countries that bring the most pilgrims to the French Camino de Santiago, summoned by the Association of Municipalities of the Camino de Santiago (AMCS) this weekend in Frómista.
What the AMCS intends, with the involvement of the Palencia Provincial Council, the Junta de Castilla y León, and the Ministry of Culture and Sports, bringing together foreign associations of the Camino, is to give a voice to the real diversity of the Camino and open the capacity for their vision and needs to be transferred to the Spanish management of the Camino. “We must not forget”, as the German Association of Trier reminds us, “is that the Camino de Santiago was a European movement from its inception. Ultimately, the Camino must be understood as a network that spans the whole of Europe, turned into a global phenomenon. The part and the whole go together. One does not exist without the other. “
“The congress will enable us to do something essential when it comes to highlighting our most international route, that first social network of communication, since it will serve to know the vision of the international associations of friends of the Camino de Santiago about the celebration of this Jacobean Holy Year 2021, as well as to collect the demands of foreign pilgrims for the Jacobean Holy Year 2022 ”with these words Armisén addressed the participants of the II International Meeting of Associations of Friends of the Camino de Santiago, which has the collaboration of Correos, a company very involved in the Camino, in addition to the Frómista City Council and the Government of Aragon.
The general director of Tourism and Commissioner of Jacobeo also participated in the welcoming ceremony, Star Torrecilla, pointing out that the Camino de Santiago is a thousand-year-old sign of identity for a new strategy of tourist dissemination and promotion that must take into account its real dimension for the Junta de Castilla y León.
The Lieutenant of the Mayor of Logroño, Adrián Calonge, the municipality that currently presides over the Association of Municipalities of the Camino de Santiago, made an incidence in that this Meeting, a world forum of understanding around the Camino, is convened with the desire to listen to all voices, improve the management of the pandemic on the Camino towards the Year 2022, still the Jacobean Holy Year, and sharing projects for the dissemination and awareness of the Jacobean Route abroad, as well as listening to the initiatives of all countries. Likewise, that part of the Spanish organizations, such as the Civil Guard, the National Police, the Junta de Castilla y León, the Diputación de Palencia, the Jacobean Council, Correos and the organization of the AMCS itself transfer first-hand to the foreign community pilgrim what initiatives have been taken from our territory to face the current state of the Way.
