Well that was just pure fun on television.
Jimmy Kimmel and Norman Lear have just two episodes of All in the family and The Jeffersons Living with a whole host of stars, and as Lear explained earlier in the evening, was about finding out how many of the same topics that were important in 1973 are still relevant today.
"We hope you make people laugh this evening, encourage discussion and encourage action, there is so much more work in this country that we love so much," he said.
All in the familyAs a result, Archie (Woody Harrelson) took off with his black neighbors and The Jeffersons dealt with Louise's reluctance to hire a maid.
The whole thing turned out to be very sexy, and was only noticeable by the fact that it was very much alive, which Jaime Foxx proved when he completely messed up a line and broke the character to address it. Or perhaps it is more accurate to say that he addressed it in character as George Jefferson.
"It's live," he said after he uttered a lot of nonsense instead of the line he was supposed to say. "Anyone sitting at home just thinks his TV is messed up."
It took him a second to walk around in a small circle and dance a little, while everyone else desperately tried not to laugh, and it was a moment of pure joy with reactions being held here in GIF form.
At first Jamie stood still, while Marisa Tomei laughed softly behind him as Edith.
Then we have Woody Harrelson as Archie Bunker and Ellie Kemper as Gloria who lose it.
Jamie Foxx went around in a circle as George.
And then he finally laughed, before he started back into the right line.
The whole thing can be seen in the tweet below.
Wanda Sykes. Kerry Washington. Anthony Anderson. Sean Hayes. Ike Barinholtz. Amber Stevens West. Steven Tobolowsky. Jackee Harry. Will Ferrelland Florence the maid herself, Marla Gibbs, all also appeared during the one and a half hours special
Plus, Jennifer Hudson gave the performance of the legendary Jefferson theme song, and that was all it took to make us want more. At least a year, if not more. Bring back all the old shows! Let Jennifer Hudson perform all theme songs! Let the Oscar winners confuse all the lines!
What a really nice event.
