Jason Momoa has apologized over the fuss over his recent visit to the Sistine Chapel. The actor has been criticized for taking photos in church when it is not allowed.
Momoa is currently in Italy shooting Fast X† Last week he had a few days off and decided to explore the Vatican City. The Aquamanactor also visited the Sistine Chapel.
He shared the images on Instagram, but he shouldn’t have done that. There was a lot of criticism, because it is normally strictly forbidden to take pictures in the church.
This ban is not only there because the Sistine Chapel is a holy place for Christians, but also because the church houses works of art by Michelangelo. The flashing light from cameras can damage the paintings and the church naturally wants to prevent that.
Given all the angry reactions, Momoa has apologized. †I didn’t mean to come across as disrespectful to your culturehe said in a statement on Instagram.
“I opened my wallet for a private visit to the church, but ran into fans who wanted to have their picture taken with me. Although I thought that was strange, given the place we were, I did it anyway – after asking permission. Still I want to apologize“.
