Philadelphia Sixers point guard Ben Simmons (2.11m, 25) will not play for Australia at the Tokyo Olympics this summer.
“I spoke with Ben, and while we want him to be part of our team, we understand and support his decision and he has made it clear that this is something he wants to be a part of in the future,” commented coach Brian Goorjian.
Ben Simmons completely missed the Sixers’ playoff streak against the Atlanta Hawks offensively due to chronic awkwardness, especially in free throws, and he decided to spend the summer on his “individual development”.
The Australian is a true Swiss Army knife capable of evolving in 1, 2, 3 and 4, and he turned in the NBA regular season at 14.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.9 assists. He had already skipped the 2019 World Cup.
