“It’s a very good feeling for me. I seized this opportunity because I absolutely want to play for a club as big as Bayern Munich,” Cancelo explained at his first appearance on Säbener Strasse: “When the opportunity came up, I thought I had to change. I’m looking forward to work and my new life here as a footballer.”
That’s what Cancelo says about the relationship with Guardiola
In the run-up to his change, a rift between Cancelo and city coach Guardiola was reported that made the transfer possible in the first place. The Portuguese international, who had been on the bench for City’s last three games, contradicted this view.
“The only reason I made my decision was that I’ve had fewer minutes of play at City in the past few weeks. There was speculation that my relationship with my former coach Pep Guardiola wasn’t the best – but in fact it was that I just wanted to play more again,” explained Bayern’s newcomer.
He did not speak to his previous coach, who himself worked for FCB for three years. He just didn’t have time for that anymore. (DATA: The table of the Bundesliga)
Cancelo made it clear: “It was also a dream for me, I wanted to embark on this adventure. In such a big club, with such a rich history. I am very pleased.”
Is Cancelo staying longer? He hasn’t finished with City yet
He initially left it open how things would continue after the loan. Bayern should have a purchase option for the 28-year-old, but it should be at a steep price of around 70 million euros. “First of all, we have to see what these five months will bring. We need a clear head. My priority is to support the team and help them achieve their goals,” Cancelo said. (DATA: Bundesliga results)

And further: “This contract is first of all a lending business. We’ll talk again at the end of the season.” He has enjoyed his time at City so far. “I always felt like I was an elite professional. I always felt that the fans valued me. They also gave me a lot back. So I don’t see it as a final farewell to the club.”
Cancelo could make his first appearance for FC Bayern on Wednesday, when the Munich team will face FSV Mainz in the DFB Cup. He himself reported fit before. “I feel absolutely ready to start. I’m happy that I can present myself on the pitch in the Bayern jersey.”
