MP Luc Carvounas proposed Thursday to postpone for a few days the National Council of the PS planned Saturday because of the “mourning” of the French after the death of Johnny Hallyday, but that will be “maintained”, according to the coordinator of the PS Rachid Temal.
“I proposed to postpone the National Council on the Telegram discussion loop of the provisional leadership of the PS”, said Mr. Carvounas.
This proposal received only a mixed reception among the other members of the collegiate leadership, he acknowledged. “There is the National Council this Saturday,” confirmed AFP party coordinator, Rachid Temal.
“It’s the whole of France who is in mourning (…) I would have liked to show that the PS knows how to be in osmosis with the country,” said Mr. Carvounas.
The National Council of the PS must fix Saturday the date and the conditions of organization of the Congress of the PS, which will have a priori April 7 and 8. For the moment, only Mr. Carvounas has declared himself a candidate for the position of First Secretary.
A “popular tribute” to the singer will be held Saturday on the Champs-Elysees, announced the Elysee Friday.
