Johnny Hallyday and the Vieilles Canailles: this day "he could not stand it anymore"

His last concert, Johnny Hallyday gave it with Old Guys Jacques Dutronc and Eddy Mitchell on July 5, 2017 in Carcassonne, five months before his death. The Taulier had already been fighting for several months against lung cancer. But despite the illness, he wanted to be on stage until the end.

On the eve of the release of Live Vieilles Canailles, with a cd and a dvd, Valéry Zeitoun returns on this incredible adventure which he is at the origin in the pages of Paris Match this Thursday, November 7, 2018. The idea of Vieilles Canailles came to the producer of 53 years in July 2013. "I am in Barcelona on vacation, I lost my job, my wife and my children in 2012 and I am not at the top of my game. One morning, at the hotel, the sun rises, my iPod starts to play It's five o'clock, Paris is waking up. And there, it jumps to my eyes. It is with Dutronc that he has this project done. Eureka! "he confides to Paris Match. Indeed, Valery Zeitoun separated from his wife Sandra in 2012 (since remarried to Tomer Sisley), with whom he had his son Dino born in 2007.

The producer then thinks of Johnny Hallyday and Eddy Mitchell to accompany Jacques Dutronc. The project comes to life when the three singers meet in January 2014 during a dinner organized at the Costes, in Paris. There followed three concerts at the Palais Omnisports of Paris-Bercy (now known as the AccorHotels Arena) on November 5, 6 and 7, 2014. The tickets are sold in one morning and in front of the crowds of the public, two new dates are added (the 8th and the 9th) then a sixth representation is added during October.

To know if conceiving such a concert with three big names of the French song was expensive, Valery Zeitoun answers: "It costs the stamp of these artists. But they have the same everyone and this has been the key to the success of the project. Nobody thought he should touch more than the other."

The audience did not understand. He whistled

At the end of the November 2014 concerts, Johnny Hallyday asks for more and asks his manager, Sébastien Farran, to contact Valéry Zeitoun to express his desire for the stage: "In October 2016, Sébastien Farran calls me: 'Johnny has talked to Jacques and Eddy, he wants to remake Les Vieilles Canailles."Except that Valery Zeitoun does not know yet that the Taulier is treated for lung cancer, a disease he announced in March 2017.

The producer remembers tonight of June 2017, when Johnny Hallyday flinched during the concert given in Toulouse, "he could not call back"."The audience did not understand. He whistled. But it's really because he could not take it anymore. He had an impressive courage, sometimes singing after a chemoValéry Zeitoun shares, but what does it matter, even the hardest, the stage?it was lifefrom Johnny.

On July 5, 2017, Johnny Hallyday, at the last date in Carcassonne, invites his two daughters Jade and Joy to join him on stage. "Maybe deep down he knew it was his last gig", comments Valery Zeitoun.
