Jon Almaas is denied participation in TV 2 reality

Jon Almaas (54) was able to stretch his arms during Saturday’s Gullruten award ceremony when he, together with co-host Solveig Kloppen (50), won the award for best host in entertainment for his efforts in the program “Alle mot alle” on TVNorge and Warner Bros. Discovery.

In recent years, however, Almaas has received the most attention in reality TV. In 2020, he won «71 degrees north – Norway’s toughest celebrity» on his own channel, while this spring he made a comeback in the program «71 degrees north – team».

– Not allowed

On the way into the hall to a voice over the loudspeaker that shouted “Two minutes until the doors close” before Saturday’s Gullruten award ceremony, the cheerful 54-year-old did not hide that the reality participation has fallen in love so far.

The “Golden Route” moments we will never forget

– The reality concepts I have made have just been fun. “71 degrees north” is first and foremost a physical toil. There are few quarrels and little intrigue, which suits me well. Had I been asked to join again, I would have done so. But it probably will not happen again, he says with a smile to See and Hear.

When asked if the super success “Kompani Lauritzen” could not have been something for him, he answers the following:

– Yes, absolutely. But I’m not allowed to.

Tempted

– You are not allowed?

– No. Because the recording period is too long, there are many episodes. Which is also broadcast on another channel. So it simply does not work, says Almaas, who aims that he must also produce TV for his own employer.

“Farmen kjendis” would not have been relevant either – if he had been interested at all, the TV profile reveals.

– No, it probably would not have worked, admits the host, who thus does not hide that he could imagine participating in more reality – if so with the competitor TV 2.

Admits its biggest barrier

– Especially “Kompani Lauritzen” looks very fun. But it is far from certain I would have won. I’m struggling with a bad back I, you know, he asserts.

– Can not be done

Warner Bros. Communications Director Discovery, Hanne McBride, tells Se og Hør, on a general basis, that the TV company wants as much good TV to be made as possible in this country – regardless of which channel makes it.

Reveals reality “no”

– The co-operation climate between the channels is generally very good. We want “our people” to do things they think are fun, and that profiles that are mainly connected to other channels should also be able to frolic on the screen on TVNorge and discovery +.

She emphasizes that Almaas, which is considered by many to be one of the channel’s biggest profiles, is a workhorse with an extreme capacity.

– He is already doing around 100 episodes for us this year, and it is incredibly fun, but it is also a lot. Locking yourself into other time-consuming productions is simply not possible. But we make assessments in each case when we receive requests, and sometimes it gets thumbs up and other times not, McBride says.

TV 2: – Welcome to call

Program director in TV 2, Kathrine Haldorsen, is secretive to See and Hear about whether they have offered Almaa’s place in one or more of their reality concepts.

– We do not want to comment on who has been involved in casting processes or has been offered to participate in various programs on TV 2, but who for various reasons do not end up in the final cast, says Haldorsen.

She adds that they rarely experience problems when they try to pick up participants who are affiliated with competing channels.

– We experience this as unproblematic.

– Does it often happen that you refuse your own profiles to participate in programs such as the celebrity version of “71 degrees north”?

- I dumped «The farm celebrity»

– As long as it fits with the profile’s other assignment for TV 2, we try to be flexible to achieve this, says Haldorsen, who also uses the chance to “flirt” with the former “New on New” star, who of course admits that he would have liked to do «Kompani Lauritzen».

– We would like to see Jon Almaas in this production, and he is very welcome to call me at any time – then we will have a chat, she says to Se og Hør.

Gave up the “flu dream”

Jon Almaas was thus nominated for – and won – an award for this year’s entertainment presenter. On the red carpet ahead of the award ceremony, he pointed out that it was a long time ago.

– This is far from the first time I’m on the Golden Route, but it’s been a long time since now. I am nominated, and probably won a Gullruten award in 2001 and one in 2011. And then I am nominated again this year, it is a whole age we are talking about here – a whole life.

Almaas became really famous through the NRK program “Nytt på Nytt”, which he led for a number of years – a full 17 years. But in 2016, he announced the transition to Discovery, and a perhaps a little more secluded existence.

– What is it like?

– I’m very well, me. I had a fantastic time at NRK and am a fan of “everything in its time”. The new everyday life fits perfectly in my life right now, ie making seasonal programs in this way. I’m still an active presenter and presenters are a “dying” race. Now “everyone” will be influencers. But I have given up on being an influencer and would rather be a good, old-fashioned presenter of the 25th year or whatever it is, he says to Se og Hør.
