Filipe Froes and João Raposo in the third “Face to Face with the Flu” about the advantages of vaccination in people with diabetes
Diabetes brought together Filipe Froes and João Raposo, Clinical Director of the Associação Protectora dos Diabéticos de Portugal (APDP) and President of the Portuguese Society of Diabetology (SPD), for a review of the consequences of an infection caused by the flu virus in people with diabetes. This is the third episode of vodcast “Face to Face with the Flu”, launched by Sanofi, in partnership with Jornal Médico.
The specialist makes it clear that vaccination against influenza virus infection “is indicated in any type of diabetes, regardless of type, cause or level of metabolic control”. Not wanting to distinguish between age groups, since “they all have an indication for this”, João Raposo clarifies that “the elderly population, due to their fragility, is at greater risk”, and, in this sense, the communication seeks to be more directed towards this group. However, generally speaking, “we want all people with diabetes to be vaccinated against the flu, regardless of the type of diabetes, the degree of compensation, or the presence of other complications.”
