The Bern city government has approved the electricity tariffs requested for 2023, as announced in a joint statement with the energy supplier Energie Wasser Bern (ewb) on Tuesday.

ewb justifies the price increase with the electricity market prices, which have risen to a very high level within a few months. The main reasons for this are the significantly higher gas and CO2 prices as well as various power plant failures and shutdowns in the European electricity production market.

For a representative household in the city of Bern with four rooms, an electric stove and an annual consumption of 2500 kWh, the annual electricity costs will increase by around 107 francs. The main reasons for this are the significantly higher gas and CO2 prices as well as various power plant failures and shutdowns in the European electricity production market.
