The deputy of ERC in Congress and candidate for European elections, Oriol Junqueras, has asked the Congress to reconsider and suspend its suspension as a deputy of the House and the deputies of JxCat, Josep Rull, Jordi Sànchez and Jordi Turull.
In a letter registered this Saturday, the leader of the Republicans has also asked the president of the Congress, Meritxell Batet, to "immediately adopt whatever measures are necessary to safeguard the rights and prerogatives" of the suspended parliamentarians, who are in prison by the sovereignty process.
In the letter, also signed by the deputy of ERC Gabriel Rufián, Junqueras rejected that the Congress suspended them in application of article 384 bis of the Law of Criminal Procedure, which establishes the suspension for defendants provisionally imprisoned for crimes committed by "integrated person or related to armed bands or terrorist or rebel individuals. "
The leader of ERC considers that the Bureau of Congress has exceeded its functions by "applying a rule of a procedural nature without there having been any communication to the Chamber by the jurisdictional body that is aware of the process." And it indicates that the Bureau has assumed "jurisdictional powers that in no way correspond to it according to what is established by regulation".
