Kate Winslet was one of the mourners who paid tribute to young mother Gemma Nuttall, who lost her fight against cancer earlier this month.

The 29-year-old died tragically on 14 October after delaying treatment to protect the life of her unborn child.

Kate had heard about her fate when she was trying to raise money for a special treatment and helped the young mother raise money for therapy in Germany.

Gemma died in the Pendleside hospice and was arrested at the Accrington Cemetery in a horse-drawn carriage carrying her coffin. The mourners were led to the chapel at Beyonces Halo.

Gemma had first heard of her cancer during a 16-week scan of her pregnancy and decided not to stop, which meant a delay in treatment.

After the birth of Penelope, the doctors were able to remove the tumor and recovered after some hard chemotherapy.

However, the cancer returned a year later and her prognosis was not good. She and her mother Helen heard about the Hallwang clinic in Germany, which offered immunotherapy. With six sessions, each costing £ 70,000, they could afford only one round.

At that point, Kate Winslet came in and helped raise $ 1.35 million (£ 955,000) by hiring buddy Leonardo DiCaprio and auctioning off as "Date with Jack and Rose" on her Go Fund Me page had encountered. The additional funds extended Gemma's life for another four years.

The actress told The Lancashire Telegraph: "It's a privilege to give Gemma the kill she deserves at the end of her incredible fight.

"As a young mother, Gemma's extraordinary determination to beat her cancer for Penelope was something that moved me deeply and made me want to help.

"She was so clearly a fighter. She fought against her fight and proved it against all resistance as wrong.

"Fundraising was a phenomenal success, and Helen's first efforts to send Gemma to Germany for immunotherapy had not been in vain. It worked for a while. "

The 42-year-old added, "Although that was not the case and although Gemma did not make it to 30, she made it to Penelope's first second, third and fourth birthday and big school on her first day.

"They could also have some magical memories together that doctors thought were impossible."

Kate and Gemma were introduced to This Morning when Phil and Holly surprised the 29-year-old with a call from the Hollywood star.

"I lost my mother through ovarian cancer last year in May, and we as a family got a very bad prognosis for my mother," Kate said. "After a four-year fight … we decided to look elsewhere and also stumbled across these places in Germany.

"At the same time I came across [Gemma’s] Petition aimed at providing immunotherapy for the NHS, and my heart sank as at that time.

"I thought," this poor young woman is probably years away from using this kind of treatment in the National Health Service. "

She continued, "I found her Go Fund Me page and saw how much she had to spend. At the time, only £ 9,000 was in the fund and I just thought, "I can not. "

"My own mother was very, very, very unwell and I would be grateful if my mother could do it for someone else, for another young mother.

"We got close to £ 200,000 and I thought," It's time to call my friend Leo. "

"I called Leo and said," Do you think we could do a charity dinner or something? "And he said," Let's make another one, come with me to Saint Tropez for my charity fundraiser and we'll have dinner with Jack and Rose ". & # 39;

Gemma's mother Helen Sproates revealed that she had sadly died on Facebook and paid tribute to her "angel".
