Kevin De Bruyne completes European Championship selection: “He’s not in my head now for 1st match” | European Football Championship 2020

As agreed, Kevin De Bruyne has joined the European Championship selection of the Red Devils today. The Manchester City turntable had been given a week’s delay by the national coach after the Champions League final at the end of May.

June 7, that was the date Kevin De Bruyne had been given on his convocation letter.

The Red Devil came into action in the Champions League final on May 29 and had been given a week by Roberto Martinez to recharge the batteries.

That week’s holiday did not go quite as planned due to the damage De Bruyne had sustained after a beating from Chelsea defender Antonio Rüdiger.

De Bruyne went under the knife on Saturday, but appeared at the apple today. Tonight the Devils train for the first time, on Saturday they will play their first European Championship match against Russia.

National coach: “Currently Kevin is not in my head for the 1st match”

“The arrival of Kevin De Bruyne is the highlight of the day,” national team coach Roberto Martinez smiled during his press chat this afternoon.

“He is doing very well. He is recovering well. He will now be in the hands of the medical staff for a few days, they will give me the green light.”

Does Martinez know anything about the playing chances of his strong holder? “At the moment he is not in my head for the 1st match, but that might change.”

It is not yet clear about a possible mask that De Bruyne will have to wear. “That’s a medical decision. If it’s needed, it’ll be there.”
