Khan congratulates Modi on winning the election in India

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has spoken with Narendra Modi and congratulated the Indian leader on the election victory of his Hindu-nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), according to the Pakistan Foreign Ministry.

"Prime Minister Imran Khan spoke today with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and congratulated him on his party's election victory in the Lok Sabha elections in India," the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

"The Prime Minister expressed his wish that both countries work together to improve their peoples."

The tensions between India and Pakistan flared up in February with cross-border air strikes and a short fight between fighter jets over Kashmir.
