Kia Niro and e-Niro 2022

So the cars I tried here can’t be considered final, but they were so mature that as a black-belted car journalist, I had to earn anything that wasn’t standard. I managed to discover two things in total. One was a temporary error message when deactivating the steering wheeled lane keeping system, the other was the protruding inner cover of the right rear fender, but it was also possible that it remained after the pyramid group for whatever reason.

Let’s start with the hybrid, which carries on with its predecessor technique but has become a more advanced and sophisticated car with better noise insulation. The electric motor is able to deal with moving the car alone for a while even on inclines with a slight acceleration.

The height adjustment range of the display projected on the windshield is too narrow to comfortably look at the surface of the HUD as a person with a high and steep backrest and a healthy posture. It’s a shame because the head-up display image is beautiful, concentrating a lot of useful information into the driver’s field of vision.

While driving, the sound of the rippling ocean, the crackling wooden logs in the fireplace, the forest bird song, the peaceful rain, a crowded cafe or the snow crackling under your feet at night in the village can color the mood on board if you feel like it. The headrest is in line with the requirements of the Euro NCAP crash test, so it extends too far, and the softer seat is less detrimental than the worse ones.

Driving in a hybrid with a small throttle, we rolled harmoniously, but if a rising, overtaking, or unquenchable desire to drive overrides the refinement with the accelerator pedal, the gasoline engine becomes much louder. However, there is no such desperate hybrid burning as in older Toyota.

The gasoline breaks the electric glide with a nasty sound, but the efficiency of the propulsion system is promising. According to the on-board computer, the average fuel consumption of the hybrid Kia Niro was 6.5 l / 100 km.

The Kia Niro’s full-hybrid computer showed an average of 4.9 l / 100 km, mostly on city roads and to a lesser extent on motorways, highways and motorways.

The gasoline engine, which has 105 horsepower and 147 Nm of difficulty with a 1,490-pound car, requires a lot of understanding. As long as the 240-volt hybrid battery is charged, the electric machine will support acceleration, the speed will increase acceptably. Instead of the previous 12.0, it is 10.4 seconds for the stationary acceleration to 100, but even now there is a problem if the battery runs out and the petrol is left alone.

The plug-in hybrid is likely to do quite well, as its electric motor boasts 62 kW (84 hp) of peak power and 203 Nm of acceleration instead of 44.5 kW and 170 Nm, but we have not been able to test this model.

We drove cars with P2 prototype status. When parking with the disc, the direction change is quick with the six-speed dual-clutch transmission. There is no reverse gear because the reversal is ensured by reversing the direction of rotation of the electric motor.

The Hyundai-Kia Group hybrid features a dual-clutch transmission with six forward gears. It changes gears briskly and with the expected fineness, there is no annoying jerk at the start as well. Based on its noise level, suspension comfort and overall performance, the new hybrid Kia Niro looked like a cultured car, just don’t want to go fast with it.

A high-rise hybrid / electric vehicle isn’t the kind of car you’re going to drive speeding motorists on a winding road. The Niro’s roadside seemed basically good, but due to traffic congestion, road scarcity, and speed limits, the tire sound couldn’t have been rougher in many corners. In some places around the Rapallo, the Piaggio Ape is the only adequate vehicle in size beyond scooters.

When, however, they managed to turn a healthier one, I liked the stability of the new Kia Niro. He was also hit by his government forces. There are Eco and Sport modes, it wasn’t snowy or normal, but that’s plenty.

The new generation Kia e-Niro has 150 kW of engine power left, which is 204 horsepower. After the hybrid’s winged acceleration, life is almost a race in the electric, especially if you haven’t sat in the predecessor.

With the new one, it is no longer possible to leave rubber tracks on the asphalt as before or with Hyundai Kona Electrick with self-forgetful gassing. The thick black crayon stripes will be pretty much missing from the receiver circuit, but the engine torque taken back from 395 to 255 Nm may show up.

On paper, the driving performance is the same as before. Acceleration remained at 0-100 km / h for 7.8 seconds and a top speed of 167 km / h. Reducing the torque peak doesn’t always mean less force on the wheels either, because it also depends on the transmission, but the prototype that the predecessor model, which won our comparative test, did not fully make sense of the fire.

It is very practical to recover in four different positions from loose rolling to definite power-producing braking. The strength of the electric power regeneration can be easily adjusted with the tabs on the steering wheel in place of the shift paddles.

An unexpected extra in the Kia models is the seat ventilation that other brands only offer for much more expensive cars. The feature on the previous Sportage’s extralist worked well in the new Niro, the fans didn’t rumble dangerously even in three gears, and even in the first position they efficiently suck the stuffy air from the shirt and synthetic seat upholstery.
