Kohfeldt officially confirms new Wolfsburg coach! – Bundesliga

Officially! VfL Wolfsburg signed Florian Kohfeldt (39). The former Bremen coach and Lower Saxony have reached an agreement. The club confirmed this on Tuesday afternoon via Twitter.

Kohfeldt agreed on a contract with Wolfsburg until 2023. He will lead training for the first time on Thursday.

Last Sunday, Wolfsburg dismissed Mark van Bommel (44) as coach. According to BILD and SPORT BILD information, VfL Sport Boss Jörg Schmadtke (57) had previously contacted Kohfeldt. Another candidate for the post was Edin Terzic (38). The technical director of Borussia Dortmund feels very comfortable in his current role at BVB.

Schmadtke had Kohfeldt, who was dismissed on May 16 after three and a half years as head coach at Werder, had been on the list for a longer time. The Wolfsburg manager particularly liked the spectacular offensive football that Kohfeldt played at the beginning of his time in Bremen.

Michael Frontzeck (57), who was assistant trainer under van Bommel and who took over his position on an interim basis yesterday, is to remain in the coaching team under Kohfeldt and become his assistant.
