Komnas HAM Papua Urges 2 Members of the Indonesian Air Force Perpetrators of Violence to Be Openly Processed

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The head of the Papuan Human Rights Komnas HAM, Frits Ramanday, has urged that two members of the Indonesian Air Force who perpetrated violence against Papuans should be prosecuted openly. “This case must be processed by law for unscrupulous members of the TNI and run openly for the sake of respecting human rights,” said Frits to Tempo, Tuesday, July 27 2021.

The case of violence experienced by Papuans was recorded in a video circulating on social media. The victim was involved in a feud with another man in the video. Then two members of the Indonesian Air Force came, grabbed the victim’s hand, and pushed him out of the stall to the side of the road. Members of the Indonesian Air Force clasped their hands together and then lay face down on the pavement. Meanwhile, his partner stepped on the victim’s head. The victim was only heard groaning without putting up a fight.
